digging out
it has been three weeks and the volume of boxes is overwhelming. where did all this crap come from? i keep thinking that if it sits long enough i can just throw it out and not even open the box.
celebrating
servant friends! rebecca mcdonald is a saint! she came all the way from texas to nc to help unpack and take care of me!
she and matt both along with the kipps and stranges from seminary really taught our family what it means to serve others and live in truly authentic community. they love us just as we are- crazy big family- and cared for us unbelievably while we were in texas. who knew it would continue even after we moved away. their lives are really a challenge to the rest of us to act when we see a need. rebecca had time, frequent flyer miles and heard the need and was here. if only i had such a heart.
kindergarten hell
our son really does think this whole school thing is the pits. he asked me if he could just stay home and he would go straight to college, he didn't want anymore elementary school.
he has decided at the ripe age of 5 that he needs to hurry up and move back to Texas so he can marry MiMi (Ida's teenage daughter). i have heard of teen runaway brides but what would this be? rouge kindergarten groom?
he did finally say last week for the first time his stomach didn't have that sick feeling at school. he has actually worked himself into physical illness over this. let's hope Harvard doesn't ever come calling- the kid would be in a coma.
he gauges who he wants to be friends with by their lunch. people that bring stinky things don't fit the bill. he definitely rules out kids that go through the cafeteria line--way to smelly. this could wreak havoc on his social life in the future. only chicks that like odorless foods will get the man?! it scares me that i have actually given this even this much thought. i guess i have time to worry myself about this. can you tell my mother-in-law has been in town? we are making up crap to worry about now.
the rest of the pack of wolves
i use this term because they are devouring me. they are actually all adjusting well. tatiana is concerned that her newest friend adelle is not making her the most important friend but sometimes plays with "other friends" at school. so it begins. sasha and brennan are really into the mud. it rains regularly so the play area in our yard that is yet to be put together is often a great source of filthy entertainment. we normally bathe them on a sparse as needed basis and yesterday they had two in one day!
patria 360
we have been a church of 6 to date meeting in our pjs on sundays on our pack porch. we learned that in terms of numbers you are supposed to count your acquaintances from the coffee shop, your checkout girl at the grocery and anyone else you have shared your vision with that raises an eyebrow in your official numbers. if that is the case we have about 10.
we did meet a couple who would like to begin meeting weekly with us to learn more and study the bible. we are excited about that. she is an interior designer and her husband is a child psychologist. they know lots of people in asheville and are really excited. she was part of a real authentic community of christians in portland and hasn't since found this again. they are moving right near us from another part of town. please pray for us and them as we begin this journey.
